Some of the many thank notes and comments from children...

When I grow up I want to be a writer like you.” Mayra Gonzales Tombstone, AZ.

“In the story, Tall Tales from a Mountain Slope, the mama Coati goes and have her babies inside a cave and keep them there for 5 weeks. My mom will never take me to a cave not even for one day!” Sarah Smith Bisbee AZ.

“Let me know when you write another book on the wolf. I want to illustrate it. Those wolves will be inside a cage eating vegetables not deer.” April Taylor Sierra Vista, AZ

“I ask my dad every night to read The Pig That is Not a Pig as a bed time story.” Peter Long Bisbee, AZ

“Thank you for the Lizard's Song.” Anthony Garcia Tucson, AZ

“Someday I want to illustrate a book for you.” Raymond Sotomayor, Casa Grande, AZ

“Thank you for your gift of The Pig That is Not a Pig I am sorry I did not have money to buy one from you.” Anonymous Tombstone, AZ

Some of the many comments from adults...

“The Audience deeply appreciates María Luisa Retana for her devotion to bilingual education, and her willingness to share her talents through her children’s books” Reach Out and Read National Center

“Author of delightful bilingual books for children, María Retana is a lively presenter who obviously enjoys interaction with her young audiences. For her reading of Tanilí, Mrs. Retana dressed in costume, sang, and danced. It was so much fun for the library audience that she was also invited to present at Arts in the Park.” Glenda Bavier, City Librarian, Douglas, AZ

“My 4th graders love the illustrations in The Mystic Call. They think the characters are very funny. The students, following the map in the story as a guide, made their own map and some of them wrote their own stories.” Ann Wood, New Mexico
